Obtuse

ob·tuse [uhb-toos, -tyoos] adjective 1.  not quick or alert in perception, feeling, or intellect; not sensitive or observant; dull.

I spend all of my non-life living time in a cube farm. As do most of the people I know. Unless you have been somehow blessed with enough sense to do something more enlightened with your life. Farm life is not all bad given the circumstances. Being gainfully employed chief among the plus side items. The downside would be the noise, lack of door and privacy, and in my estimation nowhere for the cot for Nap Time. I would like to see Nap Time brought forward from Preschool. (just a thought).

In my neck of the cube farm I sit outside an office and a conference room. The farm inhabitants that utilize the conference room are, the majority of the time, considerate and kind and close the door. The asshat that sits in the corner office? NOT SO MUCH. Granted, as far as farm life is concerned, while we are more sheep or chickens in the farmland landscape he is more along the lines of say a Bull or Horse perhaps, based on salary a much higher commodity than those of us that are of the barnyard variety employee.

There is a dearth of information as to what this Bull does in the office since none of the other barnyard animals ever interact with him. I do however get to listen to his voice all day every day. How you ask? Since the obvious answer would be that the BULL HAS HIS OWN ENCLOSED PEN, you should not have to listen to him lull over the fields all day. Alas this would be where OBTUSE comes into play.

In this corner office (see PEN) that is somewhere between 4 and 6 cubes worth of farmland, the Bull has a Couch.

Most of his work is conducted on his phone.

His phone has a wireless headset.

His PEN has a couch.

His couch is situated directly next to the door to the PEN, which is directly outside my cube.

He apparently likes to use the wireless phone headset to conduct his calls, and really who wouldn't in that case.

While sitting on his couch.

Only one of every 6 calls get conducted behind closed doors.

A fellow chicken once went and closed his door for him, starring him right in the eye. One would think he might get the idea?

NOPE. I AM GOING TO SIT RIGHT ON MY COUCH AND USE MY BOOMING EX-MARINE VOICE AND SPEAK FOR ALL THE WORLD TO HEAR OUT MY DOOR INTO YOUR CUBE AND MAKE SURE YOU HEAR EVERYTHING I SAY LOUD AND CLEAR.
"MOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
MOOO MOOO MOO MOO MO MOOOOOOO MO MOOOOOOOOOOO MO!"

Thank you for being so obtuse and missing the fact that those of us in the pasture land don't need peace and quiet or courtesy to work in any way shape or form. THANK YOU!

Jack Wagon!

  1. Are you sure we don't work in the same place? PS: At my farm, I am the chicken who goes around closing doors. Partly as a reminder to them that hey, these new fangled thangs called doors EXIST! USE THEM! And partly as a silent fuck you I render while they are otherwise on conference calls usually talking about case specific stuff which I self-censored right now.
